I am a bit of a masochist when it comes to handing my work out and begging for it to get shredded, but here's a great article anyways about giving feedback time to sink in.
...I know, more than once, I've certainly thunked my head a few months later after re-reading notes from a writing partner...
I thought it would be timely to post this link since I met my writing group last night and got 'Brake Fluid' handed back to me, nicely minced and seasoned with a couple sarcastic jokes about how best to include merwolves* into the story.
Seriously guys, you're awesome :D
Thank you for indulging my love of writing creepy-relationships.
...and thanks again to all my online CP's who waded (or are still wading) through the miry abomination that is 'Brake Fluid'. I swear I'll put all your comments to good use :)
*Don't ask. Really, don't ask. Unless you've also read a certain published book and have already experienced the 'WTF??!?! I swear that was a NaNo-dare!' reaction. Then you don't need to ask.
I love getting feedback too, even when it hurts. Makes the stories sooooo much better!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah. You've got that right :)
Delete...which is why I joke about being a masochist ;)
You are so right! There's nothing like great feed back to improve your writing and story. Even the kind that is harsh and hard to bear. Even when it isn't good feed back. It still makes you think about your writing and how to improve it:)
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer the harsh critiques to the nice ones because I know that person didn't hold back at all. They took it seriously, they took my writing seriously, and they dug deep into the underlaying problems.
DeleteI really hope that link means you will not, several months down the road, include the merwolves? In seriousness, I figured throwing a few odd jokes into it makes a nice break from 'this works', 'this seemeed off' and so forth.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, the jokes were certainly appreciated, and no, merwolves will never make a shifty appearance in this, or any other story ;)
Delete...seriously, you and writeidea would laugh me off the island...
And to be clear, you were 100% right with your comments, which is why I'm so excited to rip back into it :)
You're awesome!
Hey, thanks for the link! Glad you enjoyed the post.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember where I found the link in the first place... but yes, it was great :)
Deletei love getting the kind of feedback that makes me a stronger writer and helps me figure out how to fix a problem.
ReplyDeleteExactly :) Good CP's & writing groups are worth their weight in gold
DeleteSo glad you're getting great feedback! You know, sometimes I think the best critique is the kind that makes your gut tighten after you read it. That's the honest kind that can help you the most.
ReplyDeleteHeh, so very true. The familiar, and unmistakable feeling of, "Of crap they have a point... and this is going to take soooooo much rewriting!"
Delete...but it always makes it better ;)
