Writerly update

First, I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year again, but will probably only commit to a half-NaNo (so, 25,000 words instead of 50,000). I'm going to probably make headway in "Scarlight", but I'm also thinking of (perhaps) re-writing "Left & Right" from scratch (after reading Patrick Ness' "A Monster Calls" I am sort of itching to get back to this), or re-reading "Afraid of the Dark" and seeing if I can figure out why I got stuck, and whether that is something that can be overcome, or something that resigns this particular story to the proverbial trunk.

If you're doing NaNo, and wish to stalk me, I am here.

Second, I did sign up for the SIWC, which is the last weekend in October. I honestly have no idea what to expect as this is my first writing conference ever. I'm equal parts nervous and excited.

Third, I am eyeball-deep in reading/critiquing a full manuscript for someone. Well, I should be eyeball-deep, but I'm actually only up to my ankles. I'm hoping to get it done by the end of the weekend... but let's just wait and see :)

Now, your turn. What writerly adventures are you up to? What goals are in your future?

  1. I’m home now but busy with “stuff” I see you’ve posted all the Friday flash - excellent idea. You’re on a roll. I’m working on several writing projects some of which may be gotten to next week. Not doing NaNo since using last years for my “novel” (fell off my chair laughing) At the moment real life getting in the way of serious writing and my presentation for Nov is started and I’d like to finish it well ahead of time

    1. Busy as always, aren't you? I was out for a 3.5 hour walk with Eva this morning, so I'm a liiiiiiitle sleepy, but have to clean/get ready as I'm having a couple friends over for dinner :p

Flash Fiction Friday will be on tomorrow, as usual!

  2. Ack, at this point I'm just hoping to get 20 pages a week (kind of pathetic but it's the truth). I can't wait for my class to be over so I can really sink my teeth into writing. Don't think I'll do NaNo but I might.

  4. Awesome. I applaud anyone brave enough to venture into NaNo territory, because it's got a big fat "Burn OUT" sign for me. Here's hoping you reach your goals! Oh, and I'm impressed with the critiquing. I always stretch it out for months when I should only take weeks. Bad, right? Well, we all work at different speeds.

    1. Haha, yeah "burn out" is certainly what early-December holds...

But that's part of the fun ;)

I'm generally pretty fast with critiquing, and I'm (insanely) thorough, BUT, I do need hours of perfect quiet, without being interrupted.

  5. You know my goal: magician series novel. One nanowrimo novel for the month. I hope :) Depends on how fast the first draft comes out really -- I've never written a novel while knowing the characters this well before it, so shall see how it goes.

Type me out a line of Shakespeare or a line of nonsense. Dumb-blonde-jokes & Irish jokes will make me laugh myself silly :)
