1 straw, 1 grain of rice

1 straw can break a camel's back

1 grain of rice can tip the scale

It sounds silly to admit, but fighting with my laptop for... nearly a month has done me in*.

Since I don't think this blog is an appropriate place to discuss my personal life, very few of you are aware of my circumstances, and I really don't want to get into the details. Let's just say there are 3 major things going on right now that are sucking up every ounce of my focus and I am mentally exhausted**.

And no, selling the witch's hut isn't one of them.

Like the cascading failure on my hard drive, this past year especially has been a real struggle with too much sickness, disease, death and other unhappy things.

Right now I'm all out of fight, which is entirely un-like me. Normally I go down swinging, and when I hit the ground, I start throwing handfuls of dirt and biting ankles.

I'm not a quitter. In fact, I'm probably one of the most stubborn person you'll ever meet, but my energy reserves are completely depleted, which is why I need a couple weeks to re-group, re-set & re-charge.

This isn't about writing. At all.

I'll be back when I'm able to once again see a silver-lining within dark clouds and am eager to search out new stones to turn over***.

So for all you wonderful people, I wish you the best while I'm gone since I know some of you are expecting new family members, starting new jobs/opportunities, preparing for travel, school, exams, tournaments, and all kinds of other good things, including your ongoing writing adventures. I look forward to catching up with you when I get back, and I will still be answering email.

Take care of yourselves, and I'll see you soon :)

* I have my laptop back now, but am treating it as completely unreliable. Thank goodness for Dropbox online storage, and I'm following closely the rumours from Apple about the upcoming Mac ProBook releases. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for solid-state technology...

** This would be a perfect time to make a blonde joke since, y'know, blondes don't have a lot of functioning brain-cells in the first place :p Yes, you can take my energy, but you can't take my sense of humour.

*** Yup, I'm tired to the point of using lines like this... creativity = 0

  2. Sorry to hear about this burn-out. Take time out, regroup like you say, and focus on yourself. We'll be here when you're ready to come back--you won't get rid of us that easily :) I hope life resolves itself for you in the most positive ways possible (or even impossible--nothing is, right?). Big cyber-hug!

  4. Biggest long-distance hug for you! Hang in there!

Once, in college, I had this happen during finals week:

Almost finished with final project. Computer blue screens. Restart, computer blue screens.

My friend (a computer genius) checks it out. My ram/video card/mother board are malfunctioning. Yay.

Send computer off. They "fix" computer. Computer comes back. Blue screens. Heat sync is now destroyed. Another Yay. Hard drive overheats, burning out the hard drive - so the project is now lost forever.

Friend lets me use his computer, as long as I use an external hard drive.

Buy external hard drive, almost finish project. Hard drive malfunctions, destroying my whole project - again.

Rachel says, "SCREW THIS." and writes a paper by hand instead of the video editing that she was supposed to do. Finishes a crap-tastic video project in two hours before the deadline, passes in both things, still gets a B.

... Rachel wants to kick her teacher for giving her a B after everything that happened.

At least you don't have finals? I think that's what I'm trying to say!

But, seriously, I hope everything starts to look up soon!

Type me out a line of Shakespeare or a line of nonsense. Dumb-blonde-jokes & Irish jokes will make me laugh myself silly :)
