8 today

This is another short phone-post.

My beloved evil black cat turns 8 today.

Here he is at the beach on his extend-o-leash. He's very good at walking as long as there aren't any dogs around or too many people.

Also, my laptop... back in the shop. It's not booting up again. I swear, this is one reason I dislike living in Victoria. Since it's an island, many services are... slow, incompetent, and unhelpful. After all, it took them a week to diagnose what I told them when I brought the stupid thing in... and another 4 days to replace the hard drive... 'cause they didn't actually have any in stock. Yes, one of only 2 stores which service Macs in the city. No hard drive in stock.

The problem this time is because the cable attaching the hard drive to the rest of the computer... is loose.

Yep. Seriously. It's a complete no-brainer as soon as you turn it on.

And I wonder how many days it's going to take them to figure that out after I put it on their service desk this morning and told them what the freaking problem was.

so.................

Maybe I'll see you on Wednesday?

And thank you everyone who has commented on my re-written first chapter! I have read your very helpful comments and look forward to anything else you guys have to say ;)

His laptop is nackered - is that how you spell it? because he tried to upload a huge file and the connection was slow. anway - hopefully they will get it back to you sooner rather than later and
    happy birthday evil cat!

    1. No, the problem is that... my original problem with this laptop was a loose wire... but they told me my hard drive was failing and they didn't have anything else other than these Toshiba hard drives in stock, so I was forced to get one of those put in.

After they had installed the hard drive and I had paid for it, then they told me, 'oh, your hard drive wasn't failing, it was just the wire, but we figured you'd want the bigger hard drive anyways.'

...and ever since then I've had nothing but problems with this laptop.

...but again, they're like the only place I know of that services Macs in the entire city and outlying area.

So, the problem in the first place was their own incompetence and I have been dealing with it ever since.

Mac all the way, baby! ...next time I'll just take it on the ferry and get it serviced in Vancouver where I know they'll actually do the job correctly in the first place and use the products they are supposed to.

  2. Ahhh! Computers can be so fragile at times. Good luck, hopefully you can get it back sooner this time.

  3. Computers. Can't live with them sometimes and we'd probably go insane without them now that most of us have been nudged to dependency on the darn things :-)

    1. Yep, just like the phone or the toaster... you just expect them to work when you need it to.

  4. Bernie's hard drive has now died. The shop said a couple of days 'cause they had to order one. They don't keep any in stock I guess

    1. Depends on the store, I guess. Frustrating, isn't it? I hope Bernie's computer gets fixed soon :)

  5. I wish people would do what they are supposed to do, first time. Hope you get it sorted!

Happy birthday beloved evil black cat :-)

    1. He's my little philosopher, and has done more than his fair share of travelling around with us, so I don't mind that he's getting ornery with age.

  6. Awww--love your evil black cat. Mine's been missing for almost a month now, and I'm devastated (he's only 6 months old, and so tame and sweet...). I hear you about the island drawbacks. Here in Curacao there's ONE store that services Macs, and they sound just as bad as yours. I've become pretty good at solving software issues myself (thank you, Mac forums), but hardware... Yeah, can't do anything about that. The angst of island techno life :D

    1. Ohhhhh, I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope he gets found soon, or just wanders back on his own. I had a cat go missing for almost a year... who just showed up on the doorstep one day with a torn ear, but no other signs of trauma. I hope your little guy is alright.

...yes, hardware, not a lot I can do, and yes, the Mac forums are wonderful!

Island life is pretty good in a lot of ways, and incredibly frustrating in other ways ;)

    1. Beautiful... and very bite-y ;) He does love going to the beach, but it's a bit of a pain walking him and the dog at the same time 'cause they get tangled up. Though he's as adept as the dog at hopping/clambering up and down all the big rocks!
